Extra Nos: J. Edward's Famous Sermon

Jonathan Edwards

Join Mr. Cruz as he comes to realize there's no gospel in a famous sermon: Extra Nos: J. Edward's Famous Sermon

He writes:
Do you know Jonathan Edwards? He was a revivalist preacher in New England, USA in the 18th century. He is considered to be the finest American philosophical theologian.

I have a copy of his sermon "Sinners in the hands of an angry God". It has been sitting for years in the book shelve so I decided to do an exercise of Law and Gospel. Read on...

Salvation is Extra Nos. Where does righeousness come from? the law? No. the law only shows us our sin. It does show us righteousness but by looking to the law we cannot be saved. "For by the law is the knowledge of sin". But where does righteousness come from? "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifest, being witness by the law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God which is by faith in Christ Jesus." The law says: the man that doeth these things shall live in them." But "the just shall live by faith". All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. By the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in God's sight. Christ Jesus obeyed God; only he fulfulled all righeousness. He imputes his righteousness to those who trust him alone for it. See justification by faith alone.
